- Materials (Areas: nature; techniques).
It is important to note that students must complete all areas in the Technology Process at a satisfactory level to obtain overall a satisfactory. Therefore, it must be emphasized that the Producing ie. Practical cooking or sewing is only a section of the Technology Process.
Food for Life Compulsory
This is an introductory course for students, which will run for 13 weeks. It involves the study of nutrition and wise meal planning through designing and making a variety of foods. The main themes include breakfasts, lunches, dinners and treats.Students have responded well to this course especially to the designing of foods in which they then make.
Sewing Compulsory
This is a necessary course particularly for those students who have never used a sewing machine. Students have the opportunity to make various items with the use of an Electronic Bernina sewing machine.Food and Technology Compulsory
This course will run for 13 weeks and makes students aware of the reasons, types and packaging of food preservation. Many societal and environmental factors are brought into this through wise food choices and practical cooking lessons.Textiles Technology Optional
This course will possibly run for 20 weeks and be optional though this is subject to change. (It is possible that it will be compulsory and run for 13 weeks).Cooking around the World Optional
This is a course which will run for 20 weeks, where students can explore the tastes of the world without having to leave the kitchen.Students will learn about a range of countries and prepare relevant foods.
Some of the countries to be studied include
- Italy pasta making,
- France quiches, flans,
- India curries and
- China spring rolls
This is an excellent and exciting start to advanced home cooking and future career aspirations.
